1985: The Garbage Plates

Back in the day, yo, when hip hop was still about block parties and skills, and when guns, gangstas and personal computers had not yet arrived on the scene,
Mike Dailor was a serious contender for Funkiest White Boy In Town. In 1985, armed with 2 turntables, a hot-rodded tape deck, a razor blade and a wry sense of humor,
he cranked out a series of white label mixes known as the "Garbage Plates" ("plate" being slang for a bootleg record at the time). Composed almost entirely of
records by other artists, they could never be commercially available due to copyright issues, but they did bring the funk to many a dancefloor, made the weekly
playlist on his hometown hip hop radio station, WDKX, and eventually landed him a regular mix show on that station.
